Marketplaces This week we will finish Market places for Everfi. Investing is a way to have a faster rate of return on one's personal investments, but while you can gain money at a faster rate, you can also potentially lose the money you invest if you are not paying attention or making good decisions. The Stock Game is a good game because it helps in learning strategies that could be helpful in real life scenarios without actually losing anything. You will cover the stock market again further your Senior Year in the new Economics and Personal Finance Course your senior year.
Supreme Court Cases Rnd. 2 Quiz We will be taking this quiz this Thursday after mask break. If you haven't been looking at your foldable or case chain, now would be a good time to review those items to make sure you are ready for your quiz. There will be a reminder via Remind on Weds. to study - but that is in the Civics remind so if you joined and left or haven't joined, it might be wise to add that to your remind classes.
Coal Strike We will be looking at the Coal Strike of 1902. This coal strike was a major turning block in government engagement in regards to regulating businesses. We will be annotating the case this week and starting some of the discussion on Friday as well. You may have a reading partner while you are annotating the case, but you will also need to turn in your annotations as well. Virtual students you will receive an e-mail to find out what time works best for you next week for the class discussion to take place.

You may start with the case of your choosing. We will have a QUIZ on the court cases next week.
Everfi We will be using the Everfi Market Places to talk about the roles of businesses and have a practice of the stock market through an online game where there's not actually anything to lose (which is different from the regular stock market in losing what you invest, but there are also gains to be had from investing). This program is covering both the Macroeconomics portion of your standards as well as some from your Personal Finance Standards.

Week Fourteen (4/7/21-4/9/21)

Civics and Economics - Spring Semester (4/7/21)
This Week's Agenda
| This Week | |
|---|---|
| M | Holiday |
| T | Holiday |
| W | Sources and Types of Laws |
| T | Civil v. Criminal |
| F | N.C. v. Practical Pig - Make your case |
Greetings!
Make Your Case This Friday, whether in person or remote - students will be perusing a docket of information (basic summary of the case, as well as affidavits from potential witnesses). Students will decide what to charge Practical Pig with, as well as questions for each character that they think will help make their case for them. This may be done as individuals or with a partner from their class.
One Schedule, Soon to Be No More Cohorts Just like last week students were doing the same thing on the same day whether in class or remote, this week we are following the same premise. Students will have the same things to work on whether they are in person or remote. Next week, Cohorts A and B will both be back in building and Cohorts will be no more. That means that the Newsletter will essentially be set up similar to this weeks so there will be an agenda on the left and then these write ups on the right.
Unit NineWe are in the last Civics Unit for this semester. Our next Unit will be on Macroeconomics and our final unit will be on Personal Finance, which we have already been working on with our Partner Project. If you haven't been keeping up with your notes/binder, now would be a good time to go back and look over things and sort topics into the correct units. Final exams are just around the corner.

Week Thirteen (3/29 - 4/1)

Civics and Economics - Spring Semester (3/29/21)
Cohort A
| This Week | |
|---|---|
| M | N.C. Government; N.C. Constitution |
| T | Local Government; Budget Analysis |
| W | Unit Eight Vocabulary Quiz; Finance Concerns |
| T | Unit Eight Test |
| F | Spring Break |
Greetings!
Unit Eight Test We are completing Unit Eight this week and while it is a short unit in regards to content, it is actually one of the most important units (maybe only topped by our Personal Finance items) because the Local and State levels of government will actually have the most impact on your day to day lives. So while we are focused on only the key factors that set it apart and alike to the U.S. government, please don't lose sight of it being a very important component to pay attention to. Please remember you are expected to practice integrity when you take your test on Thursday and NOT use your notes.
Budget Analysis Please make sure to pay special attention to the Budget Analysis this week. While discussed in the past, this type of analysis was one of the most missed questions on the final exam, so make sure you are comfortable with this assignment. If you have questions, ask.
Three more units to go We will have one more unit on government this semester and then will begin macroeconomics for Unit Ten. We have already been covering personal finance with Everfi lessons. We are also about to start another round of Everfi lessons using their lessons for investing, it even has a mock stock market in which to practice. As we are looking at items for personal finance, it could be beneficial to talk with your parents about owning a house v. renting, and buying v. leasing a car. We will talk about these things in class, but it is good to gain multiple perspectives.
